Gleeson’s on the double
IT is not often that a father and son star in two major releases in the same week.
That is, unless their name is Gleeson.
That man of many parts Brendan Gleeson, is very much the central figure in the much acclaimed The Guard, which opens on this Friday, and his 28-year-old son, Domhnall Gleeson, is cast as Bill Weasley, in the latest and final Harry Potter film, in cinemas a few days later.
Domhnall was last seen as the kid in True Grit, and is currently filming At Swim Two Birds.
Final Harry Potter chapter
AT last, we have reached the final Harry Potter chapter, with the release next week of The Deathly Hallows Part 2, for which there was no advance press screening.
Here, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley continue their search for Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes, which ultimately leads up to an epic battle at Hogwarts.
The strong cast includes John Hurt, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and Dubliner, Domhnall Gleeson, as Bill Weasley.
A sight to behold at the Omni
IT is accepted that in a time of economic meltdown, movies increase their value.
Takings at Irish cinemas in recent weeks have been above average for the time of year.
A visit to the cinema is perhaps the cheapest form of entertainment.
When I popped out to the Omniplex in Dooradoyle, I witnessed something I hadn’t experienced for years….a queue of people extending outside the entrance.
The main attraction was Bridesmaids, but management later told me there was a generous sprinkling of patrons in all other 11 screens.
