Since we last spoke, Limerick have had a busy week on and off the field. Off the field, Limerick have announced new plans for the Market’s Field, while also announcing the signings of Joe Gamble and Denis Behan. Then, to cap the week off, Joe Gamble was named in the Airtricity XI squad to play in the Dublin Cup this summer against Inter Milan, Celtic and Man City.
On the field, the SuperBlues defeated Wexford Youths 3-2 away from home, before returning to Jackman Park to defeat Monaghan United 5-0 in the EA Sports Cup. The Pat Scully managed side are now in the final four of the cup, with Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers and Cork City.
On the signings side of things, Limerick will be able to use Gamble and Behan in the Athlone Town game on July 16th. Limerick face Mervue away this weekend and the following weekend is a bye week.
County Limerick native Denis Behan, 27, is a former Ireland Under 21 International and signs from Hartlepool United, having previously played for Cork City. Joe Gamble, 29, also joins from Hartlepool United – he was capped twice at senior level by the Republic of Ireland in 2007. Both players will join a Limerick FC squad challenging for promotion to the Airticity League Premier Division this season.
As mentioned, Limerick’s next game is at home this Friday night to Mervue. Limerick, currently fourth in the table on goal difference, face seventh placed Mervue in what is a must win game. Limerick are now poised to move up the table, with the help of their new signings, but before the bye week, as win is a must.
