ALL lovers of craft Irish beers are in for a big treat this Friday with O’Connell’s Annual Beer Festival, the first of its kind in Limerick. There will be brewers from all over Ireland with beer stalls selling their unique, local and different Irish Ales and Stouts. Brewers from near and far afield will be travelling including The Franciscan Well in Cork, The Hooker Brewery in Roscommon, The Carlow Brewing Company and many more.
JJ Mulcahy tells Limerick Post, “We here in O’Connell’s Bar have had the Galway Hooker on draught now for the past four months along with Belfast Blonde and have currently just started pouring O’Hara’s Irish Stout. The demand for these craft beers is currently growing with an ever growing emphasis on natural local beers. People are calling into the pub specifically for our draft craft beers so its helping with business and continues to grow. While other places have bottled craft beers, people seem to prefer the draft option and we keep the price at a very reasonable €3.95 to give value and keep the beer flowing.”
The Beerfest on this Friday July 1and Saturday July 2 will showcase these Irish ales and stouts with beer stalls set out where you can come sample and chat with the brewers. There will be a wide varied range of cask ales, wheat beers and rich stouts to satisfy any ones taste. With barbeques and live music on both nights showcasing the best of local talent with Drive playing Friday night and Trees Fall Down on Saturday night. The Mardi Gras is taking place on the Saturday so it is sure to be a great weekend for all. Beerfest starts Friday evening July 1 from 5pm at O’Connells, Little Ellen Street.
