A HEARTWARMING and nostalgic romp, The Old Time Irish Radio Show will appeal to locals and visitors to the city who want to experience what life was like when the radio was the centre of all entertainment in an Irish household. This lively variety show features Irish music, dance, song, poetry and lashings of comedy and will run at The Loft Venue throughout the Summer.
Written and directed by Mike Finn with choreography by Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain of the Irish World Academy this show looks at the quaint world of 1950’s Irish sponsored radio programmes. Once the “On Air” red light goes on the audience are transported back to a time when it was perfectly normal to broadcast Irish dancing on the radio. Complete with ads, jingles and two episodes of a farcical medical drama, the laughs come fast and plenty in this sepia tinted reflection of a bygone era. The show features the singing and acting talent of Nigel Dugdale and Liam O’Brien, who will alternate the role of host Bobby Fortune, ably supported by dancers, singers and musicians from the Irish World Academy at UL.
The night starts with a 3 course meal at 6.15pm followed by the stage show at 7.45pm finishing with a complimentary glass of Guinness or Baileys. The Old Time Irish Radio Show will run on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights throughout July and August at The Loft Venue, Locke Bar, Georges Quay in Limerick. For June and September the show happens on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
