BELLTABLE Arts Centre has appointed Mr Gerry Barnes to the position of artistic director. A former director of Cork Opera House for 20 years until 201O when he saw the multi-million programme for capital development there finished, Mr Barnes has been freelance for the past year. He has most recently worked with Galway’s Town Hall Theatre in securing 16 venues for Brian Friel’s Faith Healer tour.
He has had dealings with Belltable through booking performance tours since it opened under Bríd Dukes, and as a consumer as well as a professional.
“I am delighted to have been invited to take up leadership at the Belltable by chairman John Gleeson to joint Peter McNamara and the busy staff of Belltable,” Mr Barnes tells Arts page. “I also want to express my thanks to Joanne Beirne (ex-artistic director) for the lively legacy she has left in an exciting winter/ spring programme”.
Mr Barnes is married to a barrister, Ann FitzGerald and has two college going children, Natalie and Owen.
