AN Annacotty artist has been branded a local wonder woman after surviving a fall from a 20ft ladder, with only minor injuries.
Tonya Clifford was doing a favour for a friend by painting a large Guinness mural on the outside wall of his Knocklong pub, when she fell from the top rung of the ladder she was standing on.
She was taken to hospital but released just hours later, having only broken three ribs.
Doctors and locals couldn’t believe Ms Clifford’s luck, and the artist was back painting the Guinness mural the following day.
“She was at the top of the ladder painting when a car came around the corner and clipped it, knocking her off”, Tonya’s sister Amanda, explained to the Limerick Post.
“Tonya does a lot of hill and mountain climbing so some survival instinct must have kicked in that made her land in a way that would cause the least injury.
“She doesn’t remember falling, only that she was on the ladder and then on the ground. All she has are a few bruises on her side.
“All the locals are calling her wonder woman now!”.
Tonya Clifford was made redundant from her job last year and is taking the opportunity to set up her mural painting business, Teddies and Tigers.
“Nobody could believe that she was back painting the day after the fall, but she concentrated on the lower part of the wall, not wanting to get straight back up on the ladder”, Amanda concluded.
