THOUGH the bandmembers have featured together in various permutations since 1999 the band Delorentos formed in 2005. Guitarists Ronan Yourell and Kieran McGuinness (lead vocalist/guitar), Níal Conlon (bass) and drummer Ross McCormick set about to “harness honest emotion, fashion melodic hooks, and roll out infectious rhythms.
Based in Portrane in County Dublin the childhood friends retreated to the rehearsal room to write. The fruits of the labour was a 4-track EP ‘Leave It On’. It went straight into the Top 30 of the Irish Singles Chart and fuelled a nationwide tour and an appearance on 2006’s Other Voices on RTE.
The debut album was released on start-up indie label Cottage Records in April 2007. ‘In Love with Detail’ entered the Irish album charts at number seven spawning two brilliant infectious singles in Stop and Do You Realise.
In 2008, back in the band’s beloved Portrane, Delorentos wrote and rehearsed new material, “It’s an amazing place to make music and a key factor in the Delorentos sound.”
At this point the band had signed a major record deal which fell through. Coupled with the fact that the band was not playing live regularly guitarist Ronan Yourell grew dispondent and announced he was leaving and Delorentos announced that the band would breakup after the album had been recorded.
Three months later and the recording sessions proved to be the catalist to re-igniting the band’s passion and a newly reformed Delorentos released the second album ‘You Can Make Sound’, on DeloRecords in October 2009 and the single “Secret” came out on October 16.
In April this year the band played 7 nights in Spain touring from Barcelona to Madrid and recorded an acoustic version of a new song, ‘Bullet in a Gun’ for Spanish blog EL Deantemano.com.
In May Delorentos began pre-production on 15 new songs that will make up the bones of album No. 3. On production duties is Rob Kirwan who has worked with U2, Editors, Bell X1, Glasvegas and PJ Harvey. Kieran McGuinness says, “he is perfect for the sound we’re aiming for with the new songs.”
