RTE television broadcast is changing over to a digital service in stages at present. RTE stations will be completely digital by the end of 2012 when the analogue service is going to be turned off. How will this affect you in your viewing of familiar television programs? Digital services will provide extra free programs such as RTE rolling news, 3e, RTE Junior and RTE aertel digital. These will give crisp noise-free pictures over 98 per cent of the country, plus you get all the RTE digital radio channels on your television free as well.
A major advantage is that you will have the choice to watch one program and record another at the same time. You need never again miss your favourite soap because of clashing channels or being away from home.
The change to a digital service is compulsory, an EU requirement. All services will be on the Ultra High Frequency band (UHF) so one aerial will provide reception for all the channels.
Limerick Post called Urlan TV in Clare Street to hear where this new provider stood on these compulsory changes.
According to manager Aoife Gleeson, “It is really easy to switch to digital Saorview TV. What I recommend to enquiring customers is that if buying a television, to look for an MPEG4 model approved by Saorview. If you are happy with your existing TV and want to save money, just buy a set top box and connect it to your aerial and enjoy digital viewing”.
“It is refreshing in these recessionary times that you can get a set top box from €69.99 at Urlan TV,” Aoife points out. “Aerials cost from €18 and depending on what you need, Urlan is happy to provide a next day call-out service for city and suburbs”.
A full aerial installation for digital reception can range from just €120 to €150. It is now time to make the switch so get switched over at Urlan TV at Clare Street, tel. 061-409066 and email [email protected].
