RUGBY stars Tony Ward and fashion expert Celia Holman Lee are among the celebs promoting a new tourism drive for the Shannon region.
Shannon Development has produced the Shannon Region Smiles for Seniors magazine and plans to distribute over 30,000 copies of the magazine at home and abroad.
Commenting on the campaign which is aimed at the lucrative seniors market Aisling Travers, Senior Tourism Marketing Executive, Shannon Development said:
“The campaign is a Shannon Development and Senior Times partnership targeted at the over 50’s market which accounts for an estimated 50% of consumer spending within the EU.
“Holidays taken by the over 50’s cohort in recent times increased by 4% compared to little or no growth in the volume of holiday trips taken by other age groups”.
Emphasising the importance of the new publication Ms. Travers said:
“The over 50’s tourism market continues to grow and offers the best prospect in terms of enticing additional visitors to the region, in the current climate.
“There are now 1.2 million people in Ireland aged 50 and over and they, more than any other sector of the population, are in pole position to spend money on holidays, restaurant meals, recreational activities and entertainment”.
The magazine is an exclusive getaway guide to holiday options in Clare, Limerick, North Tipperary and South Offaly.
It has some value for money offers and is a source of information on accommodation, transportation, top visitor attractions and leisure activities.
