Limerick murder trial collapses as jury discharged

THE murder trial of a 23-year-old man accused of killing Gareth Grant in October 2007 has collapsed after the presiding judge recalled the jury this Tuesday and dismissed them.

Greg Crawford of St Munchin’s Street in St Mary’s Park, pleaded not guilty to shooting of the 25-year-old man in Limerick in 2007. The trial, which heard that the alleged murder weapon was found in the back garden of the accused’s grandparents but after analysis the accused’s DNA was not found on it,

had been sitting in Limerick for a the last two weeks and Mr Justice Paul Carney recalled the jury who begun deliberating on the verdict last Friday and discharged them.

“Something is alleged to have happened, as a result of which, I have been told that you should not proceed with this trial”, said the judge.

Greg Crawford was remanded in custody to the next sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
