A THIEF gained access to a house in the Garryowen area of the city through an unlocked door, and stole €300 cash, while the residence was occupied.
At around 4.45am on Wednesday May 4 the resident heard a noise downstairs, and on investigation, found a male leaving through the front door.
The intruder is described as in his late 20’s/early 30’s, tall and thin. He was wearing a knee length jacket, blue denim jeans and black working boots.
It was later discovered that €300 in €50 notes was missing from the kitchen.
Cash was also stolen from a Butchers in Castletroy. At around 4am on Tuesday May 3 the premises was broken into and about €1,500 in cash was taken from a till.
“I would advise all business persons against leaving cash, even floats, in tills overnight, as cash is very attractive to criminals”, warned Henry Street Crime Prevention Officer Brian Broderick.
“All cash should be lodged in a financial institution or placed in a suitable safe overnight, and not left out where criminals can easily get their hands on it during a break in”.
Henry Street gardaí are investigating both burglaries.
