28 performances at Doonbeg fest
A DOZEN years in the making, there is an open invitation to all to enjoy the 2011 Doonbeg International Jazz Festival over the June weekend. The Clare seaside village is host to a lively international line up from Friday June 3 to Monday 6.
With nine excellent bands, performers from Slovakia, Holland, Germany, England and Ireland, the miracle of this festival is that there are 28 free performances to party to for four days.
The 12th Doonbeg International Jazz Festival will open at the Igoe Inn at 9pm on Friday June 3. This live band scene has music to suit all tastes, from Dixie to Swing, Latin to Jazz, Ska to Blues.
“We are delighted to play host to the Andreas Varady Trio,” say the organisers, Peter and Philippa of SKAZZ. “Andreas is an amazing, young Slovakian guitarist whose talents have already been recognised worldwide, and has had numerous appearances on BBC and RTE television and radio”.
Expect the Jamaican ska band SKAZZ itself, of course, and Les and Sam Clague, Arklow’s East Coast Jazz Band, The Charms from Tralee and many more. Keep an eye on Arts page for further confirmations in the run up to Doonbeg.
