Danny O’Reilly, lead singer of The Coronas, serenaded an excitable crowd of about 1,500 on Saturday, and praised the market as a “fantastic venue” and one of the best he had played in.
The atmosphere was electric, and revellers agreed that utilising the market for gigs was a marvellous move, one that should have been done long ago.
“We can now rival Dublin, Cork and other large centres of population,” said one.
“Even The Coronas were blown away with it and were wondering why they hadn’t performed there before; they couldn’t believe they were the first,” Mr. O’Brien told the Limerick Post, hinting it was just the beginning.
“You’ll be delighted at what we are lining up.
“I can’t confirm anything yet, but you’ll be very impressed with what we expect to happen this year.
“I was gobsmacked at how it all passed off, without any incident.
“All the market stalls were cleared earlier than expected, and were set up again in plenty of time for the 6.30am start the following day.
“Everyone left with nothing but good things to say about it.
“The location is perfect, right in the city centre.
“People can travel down from Dublin and go back again after if they want to.
“A new venue has landed”.
