INDIAN massage is a legend and discipline in itself with devotees across the globe. Look to Velvet salon at Castletroy Park, Plassey Road for the masseuse and facialist Anna Sulowski who has a holistic interest and background in diet, body and beauty therapy. She studied in Poland’s Ayurvedic Centre and developed her skills to include Hot Stone, Ayurvedic, Lomi-Lomi massage and Udvartana massages.
A long-term interest in anticancer and anti-ageing foods is complementary to her work at Velvet where she has a dedicated suite of clients on Tuesdays, 1pm to 6pm; Fridays 1pm to 8pm and all day Saturday, 9.30am to 5pm.
“Ayurvedic is done with warm oils and boosts circulation, helping the body to renew energy and expel toxins,” Anna says. “It relaxes by targeting pressure points in the back, arms, legs, feet and head”.
She describes Lomi-Lomi as Hawaiian in origin and infinitely relaxing. The body is worked with long healing strokes to get blood and lymph flowing for holistic care, as well as the sheer enjoyment and physicality of a good massage.
Udvartana is another from the East, this massage achieved through a herbal blend worked into the body to exfoliate skin, warm muscles and smooth fatty dimples. It’s sloughing and nourishing, great for anti-ageing purposes or flakey, hidden skin.
Anna Sulowski looks to establishing a client rapport through analysing their stress points, diet deficiencies, chakra through colour reading and of course, our aches, pains and muscular tension. She offers a combination of facial, ultrasound message and face-lift mask (not suitable for high blood pressure candidates) that sees the machine work a hydrating, nourishing gel deep into the sensitive facial skin with micro massage.
“The person looks two to three years younger afterwards. It’s intense and highly effective, much more so than a nourishing mask and deep cleanse,” she says.
