THE State has successfully made an application at Limerick District Court to have two weapons found near Fanningstown, Co Limerick, destroyed.
Inspector Seamus Nolan made the application on behalf of Superintendent John Scanlon of Roxboro Road Garda Station, who had been charged with investigating the case. The Zafer shotgun and 9mm semi automatic pistol were found in a field in the county Limerick townland last year following a garda investigation into the death of a man in the vicinity.
The guns were surrendered to the State and will be destroyed.
Judge O’Donnell subsequently granted the unopposed application made to the court and the weapons will be brought to an assigned metal breakers yard by a garda inspector and broken down to scrap.
