THE much-anticipated seven-screen cinema complex at the Ennis Road Retail Park, close to Dunnes Stores, could have an October opening date, pending the working out of final details. Planning permission for the complex, which will have a total of 1,338 seats, was recently granted by An Bord Pleanala. The Limerick Post has learned that the operators, the privately owned and very successful Showtime Cinemas, are determined to have it up and running well in time for the lucrative Christmas blockbuster season.
Spokesperson, James Towler, told the Post that they were still working on a few of the finer details with the parties involved.
The planning permission was for one single combined unit accommodating seven screens (2,589 sq.m.gross floor area), with ancillary areas including entrance foyer, toilets, children’s party area, computer entertainment area, projection box, office staff areas, etc.
The cinemas, which will be located at units 7 8 and 9, have been welcomed by residents, and indeed, by those in the general catchment area.
Liam Lawlor, Caherdavin, said that the area was short in leisure facilities.
“Some have questioned whether Limerick has the population to support a third cinema complex, but it is my opinion that this one on the Ennis Road will generate a new audience”.
