GARDAI have issued a warning in relation to bogus collections for charities and organisations in the Limerick area.
On March 26 and 27, bogus callers visited homes in Dooradoyle claiming to be collecting on behalf of Fairview Rangers.
However, the club confirmed that they did not have anyone collecting that weekend and no permits were issued by the gardaí for these dates.
“Anyone wishing to conduct a collection must apply for and be granted a collection permit by the chief superintendent in Henry Street,” advised crime prevention officer, Brian Broderick.
“Each individual collector must also be in possession of authorisation signed by the holder of the permit on a Form SC4.
“Anyone who becomes suspicious about any collections should contact their local Garda station who can check whether a valid permit has been issued or not.
“Any person who is found to be conducting an unauthorised collection is liable to be arrested and all money collected will be seized”.
A warning of bogus census enumerators has also been reissued after a female wearing a green jacket and carrying a laptop tried to gain access to a house in Dooradoyle on Monday March 4.
“We would again remind listeners that all enumerators will wear their official identification on a lanyard around their neck.
“The enumerator should not seek entry to your house and will only come in at your request for assistance in completing the form”.
Collection of forms will continue until May 8.
