Fact, Folklore and Fiction

EVERYBODY is welcome to a Limerick Strand Hotel lunch and rich lecture on ‘Fact, Folklore and Fiction in genealogical research’ on Thursday April 14. The 12.30pm fundraiser is organised by Friends of the Hunt Museum with their invited speaker, a genealogist of 30 years, Máire Mac Conghail. Course in Beginners’ Playwriting

EVER productive, Limerick Writers’ Centre is launching a May to June course in Beginners’ Playwriting. Six sessions will devote to “exploring the ins and outs of playwriting, geared towards those with little or no previous experience in the field. There will be group discussions and exercises at the end of each session to get the creative juices flowing”. 
The course will entail an introduction to the craft of playwriting: developing character, writing scenes, effective dialogue, format, structure, rewriting techniques and how to become an effective critic of your own work. 
Having email is a requirement for the six week course, taking place over two hours for one day each week.

Recitals at St Mary’s Cathedral

AN international and local season of free choral, sacred and classical music continues at Wednesday lunch hours. St Mary’s Cathedral is the venue and 1.15pm the appointed hour for these free concerts.
On Wednesday April 20, attend to Peter Barley on organ for a special meditative concert for Holy Week. On May 4, Barley changes to the piano for a programme not yet released to us an on Wednesday May 11, it’s the turn of students from Mary Immaculate College.
Admission is open to all and a retiring collection will be made in aid of The Companions of St Mary’s Cathedral music. The recitals are over by 2pm to facilitate the working life.

Tops Odyssey quiz

LIMERICK Tops Odyssey is holding a fundraising table quiz this Friday 15 at 8.30pm in Claughan GAA Club, Childers Road. The quiz will help raise money for the entry to All Ireland Tops national competition. There are lots of spot prizes to be won on the night and all are welcome, says Annmarie Fitzgerald.
