
Athletes from 16 countries throughout Europe as well as competitors from Russia and the USA are travelling to the Mid-West for the event which is being held in Ireland for the first time.
Limerick Triathlon Club (LTC) with the support of Shannon Development, Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau, Limerick City Council, University of Limerick Arena and Triathlon Ireland are making final preparations ahead of Friday’s opening ceremony.
In the Championship category, athletes will complete a 10-km run before pedaling a 40-km bike around Limerick City, finishing with a 5-km run.
Hundreds of people have registered to take part in the Open race, which encompasses a less challenging course with shorter time durations on the morning of Sunday, April 17th. This will also start and finish in Limerick city.
The opening ceremony for the Euorpean Duathlon Championships takes place in the Limerick Strand Hotel this Friday at 6pm.
This will be followed by the Parade of Nations from the Hotel to the Milk Market where a Pasta Party will be held providing an opportunity to socialise and “carbo load” before the big events of the weekend.
Limerick’s newest social area, The Market Quarter also has plenty of food and music lined up for the weekend.
