McNamara made no reply to the charge.
As bail was said to b a matter for the High Court in a murder charge, Judge Tom O’Donnell remanded the accused to appear again in court this week.
McNamara is charged with the murder of James Boyce between March 6 and 7 last.
Serving in the army from 1956 to 1962, Mr Boyce was a decorated veteran having spent six months with the Irish UN in the Congo in 1961. He was awarded a UN medal for his service. He spent some time in England after leaving the army but returned to his family home over 16 years ago, where he remained.
