THE parent company of frozen food giant Iceland have poured cold water on media reports that they are planning to open an outlet in Limerick this year.
In a statement to the Limerick Post, Iceland Foods Ltd., said:
“Iceland only operate four franchises in Republic of Ireland through the AIM group. We can confirm, however, that we are not looking to open a franchise in Limerick”.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the AIM Group, claimed they were not in a position to reveal any of their plans for “commercial reasons”.
When contacted, a spokesperson responded
“The company cannot reveal plans for commercial reasons. It would be commercially sensitive to say when and where we will be opening at any location”.
Last November, it was reported that AIM were looking at opening their three brands, including Home Savers and €2 Stores, in Limerick.
Subsequently, a number of Limerick auctioneers and solicitors representing clients made contact with Iceland and AIM offering what were described as possible suitable locations, but it has been confirmed by three sources that there was no response from either company.
