Public’s train of thought welcomed by Irish Rail

Extra Limerick to Galway service in pipeline

IRISH Rail have put their proposed timetable online for public consultation for the first time, including changes to the Dublin to Limerick and Galway lines.

The draft timetable is available on the Irish Rail website and the company is seeking comments and feedback from the public with a view to implementing change.
Jim Gallivan, business development manager with Irish Rail in Limerick, told the Limerick Post that an additional Limerick to Galway train is proposed in the plans, as has been sought by commuters.
“The Limerick to Galway line use has been steady and we are chasing the commuter market,” he said.
“There has been an increase in commuters on the Limerick to Ennis line, while we will be introducing a later morning and a later evening train on Ennis to Galway, which has proved very successful”.
Mr Gallivan revealed that, if this additional train proves successful, a further service will be added from Limerick to Galway, departing Colbert station at 7.30pm.
This service is included in the draft timetable.
“The proposed extra service would arrive in Ennis at 8.10 to meet a connecting train to Galway, leaving at 8.15.
“This is included in our public consultation on the website at the moment.
“We review comments on a weekly basis and look at feedback. We can’t please everyone but we put all the information into a melting pot to come to a happy compromise”.
While many have wished for an end to the freezing whether, Mr. Gallivan said that the rail service saw a boost as a result.
“The bad weather was very good for us and we got a lot of new customers. The feedback was that people were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the carriages.
“Our main focus is to look after the commuter and intercity services, where we get most of our custom.
“We’re looking to tighten connections and iron out small timetabling issues”.
The proposed train timetables are available on the Irish Rail website until mid February, and feedback is welcome.
A date for implementation of the new timetables will be announced in the near future.
