THE St Endas Sports Complex controversy rumbles on, with confirmation from Tony O’Gorman, chairman of the Board of Management, that it is to close for a three week period for a further Health and Safety audit.
However, the long term future remains uncertain.
According to an informed source, when it reopens, staff will have to reapply for their jobs at reduced pay.
Last week, Mr O’Gorman told the Limerick Post that behind the scenes talks had produced a survival plan for the complex.
By Monday afternoon, however, it emerged that a second Health and Safety audit was to be conducted and that a reopening of the complex could be expected in September.
In another twist, it is now confirmed that a rescue plan is again being implemented.
Board member, Cllr Jim Long told the Limerick Post that they have received a pledge of €200,000 from Limerick Regeneration to refurbish the complex.
“We are getting €100,000 from the Board of Management and €55,000 each from Limerick City Council and another Limerick Regeneration fund, as well as €44,000 from the Department of Education and a very real possibility of €130,000 from Limerick City Council that has been allocated to sports by the council
“That gives us a total of €584,000 and we will also be launching a fundraising campaign and implementing a streamlining of the complex.
“I’m now confidently putting it out that this is a rescue plan and there should be no more talk of St Enda’s Sports Complex going out of business”.
