Pulitzer winner choice for Quarry Players

QUARRY Players picked a Pulitzer prize winner in its next production, due for staging at Belltable Arts Centre in February. Rabbit Hole by the American playwright David Lindsay-Abaire is the work in progress, with director of Left of Centre theatre company Dara Carolan leading the field.  He has collaborated with Quarry Players over the years, admiring the commitment to raising the bar of performance and bold choices in play, and giving workshops hosted by Quarry in Limerick.

Of this show, actor Zeb Moore makes the observation, “Just like the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland opening a parallel world, this is a story about people who become displaced within their own lives and how hope finds a way to keep a family together – with laughter as the important ingredient”.

This play, pivoting on the loss of a child, has been simmering for some time with them.
“Quarry Players were considering Rabbit Hole as long ago as two years,” Dara Carolan tells Arts page. “It’s a well crafted work, dealing with people’s emotions rather than delivering a strict narrative. Rabbit Hole is about dealing with an event that is accidental but tragic and examines how people’s lives can be transformed in an instant”.

The cast features actor/ singer Conor J Ryan as the boy who causes the fatal accident in innocence. He is joined by Michelle O’Flanagan, Niamh O’Mara, Zeb Moore and Bernadette Hayes.
