INTERNATIONAL retailer Harvey Norman, based at City East Retail Park, made a warm donation of 50 electric blankets to local housing charity NOVAS, this Christmas.Electrical manager at the store Michael Sloane, said that the donation was a little token that could make a big difference for the charity.
“Although Harvey Norman is a large franchise, we feel it is important to think locally and for us personally at the store, it’s nice to contribute something to those in need”.
The electric blankets were donated with the cold snap in mind.
“In 2009, we had the first real cold snap in many years and it came early this year so we looked at what would be a suitable donation… it was a natural choice”.
Darren Crowe of NOVAS, was delighted with such a generous donation.
“The issue of paying utility bills has become a common problem for many Limerick families on social welfare.
“We are always looking for extra bedding in our hostels and for clients in rented accommodation”.
The charity often receive spontaneous financial donations, but this latest offer came out of the blue.
“We appeal for donations… it can often be very difficult as we operate across the city and county, and something like this makes a massive difference”.
