WITH the thaw well established across the country, many local authorities are now experiencing increased water demands arising principally from leaks.
To assist local authorities to deal with this issue as speedily as possible, the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government asks property owners to check their premises for leaks, particularly premises that may have been left unattended since before the weekend, and to have any leaks found repaired as quickly as possible.
The public is also asked to assist local authorities in identifying leaks by reporting any evidence of leaks on public mains. Group Water Schemes served by local authority supplies should also check their systems for leaks.
Many local authorities have had to ask consumers to conserve water. Pressure reductions and night-time restrictions may continue in some areas. Further information is available on local authority websites.
