DESPITE the challenging financial climate, Michael Finneran TD, Minister for Housing, this week promised that Phase 1 of the regeneration programme will be delivered. He was speaking on a visit to Moyross, Southill, Ballinacurra Weston and King’s Island as part of his review of progress on the Limerick Regeneration Programme. Phase 1 of the programme, which received Government approval in June this year, involves 26 new regeneration projects and will deliver an estimated capital investment of some €337 million over the next four and a half years.
The list of projects involves a mixture of strategic infrastructural projects and specific local area projects, including new and refurbished housing, a new road
transport network, new educational campuses, the upgrading a many existing estates, and a range of sports, enterprise, and community facilities.
He said: In our time in Government, we have consistently sought to address social and economic disadvantage wherever it arose, and that principle still holds true,
even in these trying times. In preparing the four year plan for National Recovery, we have made sure that regeneration remains a priority with the regeneration of Limerick as a key project over the four years”.
