This is Hallowe’en

The celtic festival of Samhain is upon us this Sunday. As we mark Summer’s end and enter the darker half of the year on the night when the border between this world and the otherworld becomes thin allowing the spirits to pass through freely, the only spirits on our minds come in glass bottles as the city prepares for a night of spooky fun this Hallowe’en.

Limerick Bars are pulling out all the stops this weekend with most of the parties happening on Saturday 30 leaving time for all you vampires to climb back into your coffins in time for Monday morning.

Aubars are hosting a Zombie themed Hallowedding! Four lucky brides have been selected to marry Leo Delaney, Mr Limerick 2010, and win a bridal package and get to say they married Mr Limerick!! Smyths Bar will be giving away loads of prizes including a holiday in a “haunted castle” namely the four star Waterford Castle Hotel as part of their celebrations. Flannerys Bar are hosting a costume party and all patrons are urged to “Dress to kill”. The Bailey Bar are holding a fancy dress party with special guest magician Steve Spade providing the tricks and treats with “blood sucking cocktails” and “poisonous potions” being served.

Mickey’s Bar are hosting their legendary annual fancy dress party and O’Connell’s Bar are promising a Nightmare on Ellen Street.
Halloween is the best excuse to bring out your inner superhero or villain, whatever role you want to play, be it sexy or plain silly. Sharon Conway of  partycostumes.ie based in Arthur’s Quay Shopping Centre says that this years hottest items are Morph Suits or Zentai, the full body spandex suits in day-glo colours. Also in demand are coloured contact lenses to give you that otherworldly freaky look.

The girls are into French Maid, Goldilocks and Nurse outfits while the guys are opting for characters like Batman, Dangermouse, Elvis and Beetlejuice. For the teenagers, the dead cheerleader look is most popular and the growing popularity of cult vampire series, First Blood from the HBO channel should ensure that there will be more blood thirsty creatures than ever roaming the city streets this weekend.
