Aer Lingus’ will commence a new Shannon to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) on December 17 next and it has been seen as a significant boost for the airport and the West of Ireland region. The announcement will see Shannon Airport deliver connectivity for the West of Ireland to one of the world’s most important aviation hubs. The new service will have three weekly return flights, with the Aer Lingus website open for bookings with immediate effect.
The announcement comes just two weeks after the recent expansion of Aer Lingus Regional’s Shannon Manchester service.
Welcoming the decision, Shannon Airport Director Martin Moroney commended Aer Lingus on identifying and taking advantage of the significant demand that exists for services to this important hub.
“Given the very significant market demand for services to Paris, we were confident that we would quickly re-establish services to the French capital after Ryanair decided to terminate its long-standing and successful service,” Mr Moroney said. “We are delighted to welcome a new Shannon Charles de Gaulle service from Aer Lingus. Paris is one of the world’s most visited cities and Charles de Gaulle is one of the most important aviation hubs, with onward connectivity to more than 200 non-stop destinations. Along with our existing Aer Lingus services to Heathrow, this ensures that Shannon now has outstanding onward connectivity to all major destinations across the globe.”
Shannon Airport Authority Chairman Brian O’Connell said that the ability to secure Aer Lingus services on the route so quickly is a major vote of confidence in the airport and in the region. “Paris Charles de Gaulle offers very significant options for inbound and outbound business and tourism travellers alike and this announcement is a very significant step forward for not just the airport, but for the region as a whole.
“We had identified Charles de Gaulle as a target for some time and redoubled our efforts following the announcement that the successful Beauvais service was ceasing operations from the end of this month. We are delighted that Aer Lingus, a valued airline partner at Shannon, has decided to launch a new three times weekly service to Paris.
“Considering the extremely challenging global operating environment currently for aviation, this announcement again shows the resilience of Shannon Airport. The airport management team, supported by the Board of Shannon Airport Authority, and by the Dublin Airport Authority, is working extremely hard at building on our existing network and we are confident that we will be able to announce further new services over the coming months.”
