IT will be party time in the city’s all-weather Milk Market on Friday, October 22, from 11am to 5pm, and everyone is invited along to celebrate the completion of the market’s revamp. “It’s also an opportunity for us to say thank you to all the shoppers and supporters who have made it the success it already is,” said David O’Mahony, chairman of the Limerick Market Trustees.
The event is also intended to showcase Fridays to those who are only familiar with the famous Saturday Market.
On Friday, however, as well as the usual colourful displays of foods, arts/crafts and horticultural produce, there will be free classical and trad music sessions; food tastings and lunchtime jazz.
Bord Bia will stage two ‘healthy eating’ cookery demonstrations at 2pm and 3.30pm, using Milk Market produce, and for the children, ‘Giggles the Clown’ will create mayhem from lunchtime onwards.
There will also be lots of prizes to be won, including a luxury hamper.
“The Milk Market has been a tremendous success since it reopened as an all-weather, multi-day market last June. Less than four months on, it has already attracted over 150,000 shoppers into the city, bringing benefits to the shoppers, the traders and the economy of the city”.
The Milk Market now opens on Friday, and Sunday, as well as Saturday, with many of the shops and food pavilions opening on other week days..
Friday’s Open Day will showcase the potential the market trustees want to build on.
“We are extending our invitation to everyone to drop in at some stage during the day so that we can say “thank you” and introduce you to the Friday Market,” concluded Mr O’Mahony.
