POSITIVE news from the region has reverberated around the world with the pivotal role played by a Shannon-based company in the safe rescue of the Chilean miners trapped underground since early August.
Central to the miners survival underground was Shannon based company Mincon, which provided the reverse circulation drill that penetrated 700 metres into the rock, allowing sustenance and medication to be passed through.
The Limerick Post exclusively revealed that Mincon was one of just three companies in the world that manufacturer the drill necessary for the miners survival.
Director and founder of the company Paddy Purcell, told the Post that it had been hugely rewarding to play a role in ensuring that the 33 miners survived.
“It feels very satisfying to know that we played a part in keeping these men alive,” he said.
Emotional scenes have been broadcast of the trapped men being reunited with their families, many of whom camped near the site for 69 days.
Far from appearing distressed, the men relished their freedom and embraced loved ones and their jubilation has been infectious.
The story of human survival is an inspiration to many who are currently enduring their own personal struggle, and has offered an uplifting moment which is long overdue.
