THE stretch of the M7 motorway from Nenagh to Limerick is due to be opened to traffic on Tuesday by Minister Noel Dempsey.
The section of road, the second last stretch of the motrway to be completed, was due to open in May 2009, but was “bogged” down with problems when it began to collapse into Annaholty Bog near Birdhill.
Contractors Bothar Hibernian have now found a solution and have built a concrete and steel reinforced support road over the problem area.
The ceremony will take place at 1pm and the road will open to the public within about two hours.
The 38km length of road consists of 28km of motorway and an upgrade of 10km of the Nenagh bypass to motorway standard.
Earlier this month Sean O’Neill of the NRA told this newspaper that the final stretch of the motrway, from Nenagh to Castletown, running from the eastern junction of the Nenagh Bypass to the Borris-in-Ossory interchange would open in November.
