Schools Game Playing Day

PRIMARY schools across county Limerick are invited to register for Ireland’s annual School Game Playing Day on Friday, October 22. The idea behind the day is for pupils to have fun playing board games while also raising money for their school or local charity.

Schools are asked to allow children to bring €2 along with their favourite board games to play during class on the last day of school term. The funds raised can be used by the school itself or donated to a charity of their choice.

Rise in motorway callouts to AA

AA Rescue responded to 142 callouts by members who completely ran out of fuel on  Irish motorways since January.
In total the AA has attended 2,113 call outs on the motorway network so far in 2010, a rise of 55% on the same period last year.
The figure of just under four callouts per week for empty fuel tanks comes to light as the National Roads Authority announces its plans to erect 130 signs to direct drivers off motorways to nearby towns and villages where they can refuel and use the facilities.

Ballingarry polling booth reinstated

THE Ballynoe polling booth in Ballingarry has been reinstated.
Voters from the townlands of Ballyelan, Ballyguiletaggle, Ballyguilebeg, Ballynarooga Beg East and West, Ballynoe, Derraclogh, Glenwilliam and Kilmilhill, will now return to voting in Ballingarry.
The motion to have the booth reinstated was put forward by Cllr Patrick O’Donovan, who said that local people had a tradition of voting in Ballingarry and that it made sense to restore the ballot box as it is “closer to the people” than the current Rathkeale location.
A new polling station will also be created at Killoughteen National School for the townlands of Ballypierce, Garryduff, Glenagowan and Killoughteen which are moving from the Limerick Dail constituency to the new constituency of Kerry North/West Limerick.
