Mundy plays live

Mundy, born Edmund Enright, released his debut single ‘To you I bestow’ in January of 1996. The songs inclusion on the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s movie, Romeo and Juliet brought the singer from Birr, Co. Offaly, to international attention and it’s soundtrack went on to sell 11m copies worldwide.

He has since released five albums including ‘Live & Confusion’ in 2006. Recorded at a rammed Vicar Street venue in October 2005,

the album and DVD captured the magic and energy of a Mundy concert. It is a greatest hits collection that manages to distil the excitement of a Mundy show into a visual and aural treat that is that rarest of things for a live album, inclusive – giving listeners/viewers a feel for what it was like to be there and provides the perfect snapshot of one of Ireland’s best performers doing what he does best. Songs like ‘Mexico’, ‘July’ and ‘By my side’ are bone fida Irish classics at this point and his version of Steve Earl’s Galway Girl reached number one in the Irish Singles Chart in April 2008 and remained there for five weeks.

It was the biggest selling single in Ireland two years in a row in 2007 and 2008. Mundy will revisit his back catelogue of hits when he plays a solo gig in Flannery’s Bar, Upper Denmark St. on Thursday September 23 as part of the Guinness Arthur’s Day celebrations.
