‘Friends Of’ three of our cultural titans, Hunt Museum, Irish Chamber Orchestra and University Concert Hall, “come together for an evening of music and mingling” next week at the concert hall. These organisations are host to a wine and canapé reception in UL’s Bourn Vincent Gallery to court new member Friends and reward the party faithful. UCH’s David Collopy, John Kelly of Irish Chamber Orchestra and Dr. Hugh Maguire of Hunt Museum will welcome the combined group and provide a brief overview of their respective seasons ahead.
After the meet and greet, there’s the opportunity to enjoy the inaugural performance of the Irish Chamber Orchestra 2010/ 11 season in the concert hall (also at UL’s Foundation building, beneath the gallery).
Emma Foote of UCH and LIT outlines the concept of formal Friends in shaping the creative spirit and works:
“The Friends of cultural organisations around the world are instrumental in funding vital programmes that initiate and promote open access. They are the backbone of museums, venues and orchestras in all major cities and Limerick is no exception.
“Members receive various benefits including year round admission, complimentary lunchtime lecture series and specialist art or music tours at home and abroad”. Each institution has an annual Friends reception; the ICO’s have discounted concert tickets and recognition in concert programmes (ICO). They have advance notice for sell out concerts, no booking fees, dedicated Friends booking line, enjoy pre-show talks and a personalised Gold Card (UCH) for citywide discounts. Contact the Hunt, ICO or UCH for more details of the friendly events, talks and seasons ahead in time to arrive for Thursday 23, 6.45 pm.
