Musique de Chambre Francaise

TUESDAY September 14 will see Limerick County Council Arts Office launch the fifth year of Autumn Concert Series at All Saints’ Church in Castleconnell. This year sees a move away from a full season’s homage to one composer such as Mozart or Chopin, and the focus is on French Chamber music of the late 19th and early 20th century.

“All the usual suspects will be featured – Debussy, Ravel, Gabriel Fauré, Cesar Franck, Camille Saint-Saëns and others,” says programme co-ordinator Tony Rodgers.  “The performers include a new Irish group Triocca, which is an ensemble of flute, harp and viola, the Romanian ConTempo String Quartet and Irish virtuoso violinist Elizabeth Cooney with the Syrius Piano Trio.

“Finally, pianist Míceál O’Rourke, who has spent much of working life based in Paris where has a well-earned international reputation as performer and recording artist, will perform popular works by Debussy and Ravel and some lesser-known French composers”.

Indeed, almost all the musicians booked are Irish but living and working for much of the time in London, Paris or New York. All Saints’ Church provides valuable exposure to them to an audience at home. The second Tuesday in each month at 8pm is time and date at Castleconnell; the exception is December 7’s date with O’Rourke.
