This month Limerick’s musicians and DJs are getting on their bikes, raising money and building houses all in the name of charity. Limerick Post looks at three events well worth your attention and hard earned cash featuring the city’s best club DJs like Johnny Hammond, James Kavanagh and Eamonn Ryan, new boyband, Labelled, musicians Siobhán O’Brien, Seneca and electro beat makers Paul Webb and Brian Sexton.
Temple Street Hospital Saturday Aug 21
One of the events associated with this September’s Electric Picnic is a 90 km charity cycle from Dublin to Stradbally in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital. This charity cycle, dubbed the ‘Tour de Picnic’, takes place on the morning of Friday September 3 and Paul Webb host of the Balance Radio Show on Spin South West and one of the country’s best known DJs is taking on the Tour de Picnic this year and will be hosting one of his Balance with Webb Sessions as a fundraiser on August 21. Participants in the cycle are required to raise a minimum of €500 in sponsorship all of which goes to support the great work of Temple Street.
Having hosted numerous sold out party’s all over the country Paul has put together a line up of DJ talent to take over the upstairs room and terrace of Dolans. Joining Paul on the line up will be Brian Sexton, Peter Byrne (aka Doctor Evil), Dave Hall, Michael Jason Grant, DJ Shaq and Liam Flag. All happening in Dolans Saturday August 21, admission is just €5 with every admission ticket entered in a draw to win an Electric Picnic ticket on the night !
Headway Sunday Aug 22
Organised by Trinity’s DJ Johnny Hammond, Snap Rally Street Party is an outdoor free event happening in Bedford Row this Sunday to welcome back a group of Limerick DJs and friends cycling from Ballybunion to Limerick, an accumulated total of 3000 miles to raise funds for Headway Ireland. Headway’s mission is to bring positive change to people affected by acquired brain injury. The gig kicks off at 3pm featuring magician Steve Spade, Voodoo Girls, Brian O’Brien, Better than You, and a dee jays Johnny Hammond, JJ Hartigan, James Kavanagh, Michelle McMahon, Dermot Long, Mac3, Bono, Eamonn Ryan, Darren P, Victor John Jnr and new boyband, Labelled.
Help Rebuild Haiti Saturday Aug 28
Limerick singer/songwriter, Siobhán O’Brien along with friends Trish and Mike FitzPatrick are travelling to Haiti in October for a week to help build badly needed housing in Gonaieve. As part of their fundraising drive they are putting on original Limerick bands in Dolans and will also have a draw for signed Munster, Arsenal, Manchester United and Ireland jerseys. Playing on the night are Animal Beats, Lou Mc Mahon, Seneca and special guests. All happening in Dolans on August 28 from 8pm.
