Limerickโs Heritage Week
CURRENT from Saturday August 21 to Sunday 29, National Heritage Week is celebrated in Limerick with a brisk roster of events. See:
* Tuesday 24, 1pm-2pm
LCGA Permanent Collection Lecture by Dr. Peter Jordan at The Hunt Museum. Free.
* Wednesday 25, 1pm-2pm
Curatorโs talk by Mary Conlon at Faber Studios, Catherine Street. As part of the series on the Shinnors scholarship, Conlon discusses ideas and developments in her curatorial research project based on Italo Calvinoโs lectures Six Memos for the Next Millennium.
* Thursday 26, 6pm-8pm
Carnegie Reading Circle at Faber Studios, Catherine Street. This is an informal, social event where guests are invited to read to the group a text or extract from a text on the theme of Time Travel. Book by email, [email protected].
Septemberโs On the Nail
TWO prominent writers feature in September 2โs On the Nail literary session at The Locke Bar. The Thursday night readings are hosted by Limerick Writersโ Centre and the invited guests are Dublin born writer and teacher, Nuala Ni Chonchuir and Limerick writer/ director Gerry Stembridge.
โEveryone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event, poets, storytellers, musicians and writers,โ founder Dominic Taylor makes clear. โThe night begins at 8pm and there is free admission and free finger food for everyone attendingโ.
So anyone with an ear for the spoken word will enjoy this regular monthly forum, and thereโs an open opportunity to platform books, CDs and background.
Jazz improvisation workshops
PROVISIONAL dates mooted by Limerick Jazz for improvisation workshops are from September 14 to December 8, taking place over 12 Tuesday nights inย LIT. Add in also theย end of term performance on Wednesday December 8 which takes place on stage in Dolanโs Upstairs, a series of ensembles led by top professionals. Students, whose ages have rangee from 12 to 70 years, can expect a mid-term break with the academic year in late October.
The plan is to run the junior workshop again on Saturday afternoons at Peter Dee Academy of Music on OโConnell Avenue. ย Names are being taken for a first ever beginnerโs workshop.
