Rigney’s Farm add to Limerick’s Great taste

-

WITH over 6,000 products tasted and tested against the best in a competition that now is in its 17 year, Limerick has shone again in the form of the excellent produce that comes from Rigney’s Farm in Curraghchase.

Rising to the top of this coveted list in the ‘Oscars’ of food was Caroline Rigney of Rigney’s Farm in Curraghchase where she again landed an award for her hand reared pigs.

Caroline, this year, scooped a gold star for her “Gammon Ham” having taken plaudits and awards in recent years for her pork sausages and green streaky bacon that landed a coveted three stars in the same competition in 2008. The judges noted that it was “very moist, a good covering of fat and carves really easily. The texture holds together whilst still being juicy. Cure very tasty.”

Over an intense two-month period, some 350 judges were involved in gathering together the best of the best and accrediting them with the gold medal awards that continue to dominate that benchmarking of the food industry.

The Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food are the acknowledged benchmark for speciality food and drink. A three-star gold is the highest level of award any producer can aspire to and is recognised as the definitive independent accreditation of quality. See www.rigneysfarm.com for more details.
