It’s been a busy few weeks for Vivastudios main man, Dan Sykes having hosted a Micronite Arena at the Mystic Festival in Carlow showcasing some of the mid-wests best beat makers and running the Bump Festival just a few miles from Limerick on the banks of the Shannon river and now with details finalized for the Micronite 3rd birthday party happening this weekend.
Limerick Post caught up with Sykes to get the lowdown.
Micronite, a monthly event, started out three years ago to provide an outlet for techno music in Limerick on a Saturday night and has grown in that time to be the place to lose it to local DJ heroes Dan Sykes, Cian Frawley, Ruan Flood and John Buckley among others with occasional guests representing the likes of Surge and Plastic FM. “What happened with Micronite is nothing short of a dream come true, it’s just one of those things I’m really proud of and happy to be a part of”, says the promoter, “the crowd are what makes it special, so this party is for all those who came to Micronite and made it what it is over the last 3 years”. The party will be access all areas in Dolans with three rooms featuring Ireland’s premier techno DJ Sunil Sharpe joined by Emetix and Sykes. The terrace will shake and wobble to the sounds of Tokinwhiteboy and Subtle Audio’s Code & Mecca with DJs Niki Kiely, Ruan Flood, Eggy and the recently signed Patrick McCoubrey showcasing their sounds in the upstairs room.
This party is also somewhat of a reunion for the cast and crew of the recent Bump Festival which was a huge success and saw hundreds dance the weekend away in what was a first of it’s kind to happen in Limerick. Asked for his reaction to the Bump weekend, Sykes commented, “So happy, as it was just what we wanted, everyone came together and supported and had fun, the atmosphere was great and people came from as far away as Belfast and all over and everyone was sound. Also, on behalf of myself and the other organizers Eanna and Emma, we are thankful to all involved from the crew, DJs, artists and helpers, it would not have happened without all those guys”. Asked what gigs stand out in his memory from the weekend, he highlighted, “first off lets see …. Lenny & A2df & Tony Roche, We Should Be Dead, Jane Fraser, Rockwell, Ancient Ways, Subtle Audio, Luka Baumann, Bearweaswel ……. to be honest I can say the whole thing was a dream realized.” So will there be a Bump Muzik Fest 2011? “Oh completely, 2011 is already in the making, obviously at a different venue. The vibe has been set and we will aim to keep it in the near area of Limerick.”
So this Saturday, August 16 in Dolans, revelers will get a chance to meet some of the faces they partied with over the BUMP weekend and celebrate three years of Micronite with headliner Sunil Sharpe from Spindizzy and Tone-Wrecker, Sykes mused, “Its fitting that Micronite should have one of Ireland best techno DJs to play its 3rd birthday bash, he is probably one of the countries best electronic exports and an amazing DJ to boot. Just our way of saying thanks for keeping the scene alive, Limerick ….we love you!”.
