Music notes August 14

Operating losses for MySpace have increased again this year to $575m for the 12 months up to July 2010. MySpace which is still the site of choice for the music community to promote themselves has struggled to keep step with the trendier Facebook and Twitter and has been underachieving in advertising revenues. News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch has given assurances that the service will continue but will undergo “a major overhaul and will look very different in the next few months”.

Electric Picnic has just become a more attractive proposition with the inclusion of Janelle Monae and Neon Indian to the bill. Monae’s meteoric rise has been a sensation since signing to Bad Boy Records, releasing debut album The ArchAndroid in July and became a YouTube hit with her stunning performance on the Late Show with David Letterman drawing comparisons with Prince and Michael Jackson. Neon Indian’s 2009 album Psychic Chasms was all space rock noise and dreamy pop melodies  and is finally set for release in Europe this September. Get to their stages early to have any chance of experiencing these two epic performances.

Eden, Ireland’s L.G.B.T (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) touring clubnight makes it’s return to Baker Place Underground this Saturday, August 14. They promise a “great night with some excellent remixes, old school classics, electro and progressive house spun by one of Limerick’s favourite DJs, Jimmy Mc.

No stranger here in Limerick, Jimmy has had residencies in Pery Nightclub, The Globe, Bentley’s, Bubblicious, Yum Yum’s, and Quinn’s and this night is all about fun, fun, fun with a great atmosphere and excellent music. The folks at Eden are advising to “let your imagination roam, be individual, be unique, be wild and get ready to dance your socks off!” More info on edenexperience.com
