The Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children has a meeting today with Minister Harney and Professor Drumm at which Labour Health Spokesperson and Limerick TD, Jan O’Sullivan will again raise the opening of the respite house in Limerick.
“I understand that the HSE has demanded that the respite house be re-opened before they will meet to discuss resources. That is not the spirit of what Minister John Moloney wrote in his email to me last Thursday where he said: “The Brothers of Charity at yesterday’s meeting with Minster Harney and myself indicated that they would work with the HSE to ensure this happens.”
“The priority is to get the respite house open. That is much more likely to happen through talking rather than through a stand-off situation. They need to meet now; identify where the €150,000 to run the respite can be found and set up a system to deal with the other resource issues.
“The Minister and Professor Drumm must insist on this. The 63 families affected need action now and need respite services restored this week.”
