Limerick lose out in Munster Football Final

-

Limerick fell to Kerry in this afternoon’s Munster football final in Killarney on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-14. The Treatymen started the game at a rate of knots, leading 0-4 to no score at one point. The first half wind advantage saw Limerick go in at the half leading 0-10 to 0-7.

The start of the second half however is when Kerry, the current All Ireland Champions, had their purple patch. A scoring run of 1-9 unanswered, saw Kerry rush into a 1-14 to 0-10 lead. With the game looking as if it was all over, gallant Limerick managed to level the scores with a wonder goal from John Galvin and points from Ger Collins.

Indeed Galvin, who won man of the match, was unlucky not to win a last minute penalty as the Croom midfielder battle to win possession in the small rectangle. With the game tied at 1-14 a piece, Kerry up their game. Points from Colm Cooper, Dave Moran and Tomas O Se saw the Kingdom secure their 73rd Munster title as Limerick await their second ever. The gap to the Shannonsiders last win is now 115 years.

For Kerry, the future is the All Ireland quarter finals, while for Limerick the qualifiers beckon once more. In the last few years Limerick have struggled to match Munster championship form in the back door games, but looking at today, the summer is by no means over for the green and white.
