Production has begun in Limerick for a return of RTÉ series Mattie, which began life as a pilot during Christmas 2009 and has now been developed into a six part series. Actor and comedian Pat Shortt plays Mattie Dwyer, a hapless country detective, transferred to a city station. The series will also see the return of Mattie’s partner, feisty detective Sharon Kelly, played by Lesley Conroy and also Sean McDonagh (Felix), Alvaro Lucchesi (Tom), and Superintendent O’Meara, played by Joe Taylor.
Filming on the series began last week and will continue over the month at various locations around Limerick City.
Mattie is written by Pat Shortt, Mike Finn and David Cummings, directed by Shimmy Marcus and produced by Pat Shortt and Brian Kelly.
Pat Shortt on the set of Mattie commented: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be filming the first series of Mattie in Limerick. We were overwhelmed by the very positive reaction to the pilot episode of Mattie at Christmas and the whole cast and crew are excited to be involved in this new project for RTÉ”.
