Man shot in parked car by cyclist

GARDAI are appealing for anyone with information relating to a shooting in St John’s Square on Monday night last to contact them at Henry Street Gardai Station. The shooting, where a lone gunman, believed to be cycling a bike, approached a parked car and opened fire at the three men sitting inside. The gunman fired at least three shots at the car hitting 20-year-old Daniel Philips, from Ballinacurra Weston, in the head.

Philips was rushed to hospital where his condition was said to be critical. On Tuesday morning he was brought to Cork due to the seriousness of the injuries.

The armed Garda ERU attended the scene within minutes of the incident.

In follow up searches and investigations carried out by the gardai, a number of people have been arrested and detained at Roxboro Garda Station. One is believed to have been the intended victim of two previous shootings in Limerick city.

Gardai are treating the incident as very serious and are appealing for calm in what is the latest spate in the city’s gang related fued.
