THIS year’s Africa Day will be celebrated here on Sunday May 30 with festivities taking place on the grounds of Limerick’s Civic Offices from 12 noon until 6pm and entry is free.
The Music Stage at Africa Day will feature an exciting line-up of African and Irish artists including live sets by The Amazing Few, Elikya Choir, Lady Sheila Musical Band, Afrish Arts and the RnB group P-Starz.
The Amazing Few are a ska, pop-punk band, their weird and wacky live set has endeared the band to festival goers, The band will be appearing at many indie left-field festivals such as Life Festival, Meath and Spraoi Festival in Waterford this Summer.
Also not to be missed are Elikya Choir, the Limerick based multicultural gospel group will bring their uplifting spiritual melodies to the Africa Day Music Stage. Pop/R’n’B acts Lady Shiela and P-Starz complete the stellar line-up. There will also be drumming workshops, a jembe drum showcase, African storytelling session and an opportunity to learn traditional dances from the Congo, Togo and Malawi.
There will also be hair-braiding, delicious food samples from DR Congo, Western Nigeria and South Africa and arts and crafts displays from all over Africa.
