A LIMERICK man who used an angle grinder to cut off the iron security bars at an external window of the Stella Bingo Hall and subsequently tried to gain entry to rob the premises was refused bail at Limerick District Court. 35-year-old Michael McNamara, of no fixed abode, but originally from Limerick, was before Judge O’Donnell having been detained by gardai who found the accused attempting to gain entry to the Shannon Street premises.
Gardai also found McNamara in possession of “house breaking implements” at the scene last week and objected to bail. Gardai gave evidence that the accused was “caught red handed” attempting to break in to the Stella and feared further offences would be committed should he be granted bail.
Judge O’Donnell refused bail to Michael McNamara and remanded him in custody until this Thursday where the directions of the DPP would be sought.
