Workshop series by Orchard Theatre Co.

A NEW drama company based at Daghda Space in John’s Square, Orchard Theatre Co., will presents a series of four workshops in May, one for each consecutive Sunday. Each has a specific theme, costs €40 and will run from 9.30am to 5pm.

*Workshop A on Sunday May 9: De- Programming the Actor. Led by Simon Thompson

This workshop investigates neutrality, allowing the actors to become free and discover what only exists within themselves by using Jacque LeCoq’s teachings and methods. Energy that would normally be wasted on self doubt and critical comment is now used for idea creation and problem solving.

*B, Sunday May 16: Characterisation. Led by Simon Thompson

This workshop focuses on the skills and techniques required to develop truthful, honest and real characters that will engage your audience and fellow cast members. Working from the actors centre, participants build on the knowledge of neutrality, using elements of physical theatre and in-depth text analysis.

*C, Sunday May 23. Physical Theatre. Led by Marcus Bale

In this workshop, the tutor will look at different approaches in order to develop the expressivity of our bodies in theatre. The techniques used range from Improvisation, Commedia, Bio-mechanics and the work of Jacques LeCoq and Augusto Boal.

*D, Sunday May 30. Playing the Fool. Led by Marcus Bale

The understanding of the mechanisms of comedy is a fascinating topic and an extremely useful tool for anyone interested in the theatre. “During the workshop we will develop our understanding and exercise the ‘funny bone’. Among these techniques are Improvisation, Commedia dell Arte, Clowning and the work of Dario Fo, Jacques le Coq and Philippe Gaullier”.

You can book for any or all workshops with Simon Thompson in advance by email at [email protected] or mobile 087-7566192.
