Mother and son arrested in drugs haul

FOLLOWING a planned raid on a Cliona Park house in Moyross on Monday night, a mother and son have been arrested and detained at Henry Street Garda Station after gardai found over half a kilo of cocaine at the residence.

The drugs haul, believed to have an estimated value of over €35,000, is a result of an operation and investigation carried out by the Mayorstone drugs unit.

The house where the mother, in her 50’s, and her son, in his 20’s, was raided between 7 and 8pm on Monday night and the two were taken to Mayorstone garda station for questioning.

They have been arrested under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act and can be detained for up to seven days without charge.

The provisions of the legislation state that “Where a member of the Garda Síochána arrests without warrant a person whom he or she, with reasonable cause, suspects of having committed a drug trafficking offence, the arrested person may be taken to a Garda Síochána station.
