LIMERICK based iGrow.ie launched recently as a new business to help an assist those who wish to grow their own vegetables. iGrow was set up by father and son team James and Thomas Healy with two web sites, www.igrow.ie and www.igrowstore.ie which sees the fruition of the last years work come to life for James and Thomas.
James is a qualified horticulturist working in Ireland all his life who is bringing his vast experience and expertise to this new business. Thomas will head up the retail side of the business with years of experience behind him in the grocery retail sector he brings this know-how to the forefront in the new venture.
www.igrow.ie offers membership to home growers and to growers on specially prepared Growing Units through which education on all aspects of fruit and vegetable growing will be provided. The home grow members receive access to iGrows online members areas which will have information on growing your own and also weekly diaries from James on the tasks that have to be undertaken in your garden that week to ensure that you have a successful crop.
iGrow plans to open growing units throughout Ireland in areas close to urban populations where they will offer two unit sizes (500sq.m and 1000sq.m) in allotment style formats and the company is actively seeking areas of growth. These units will be designed for people who are looking to make an extra income on top of growing their own, where excess produce can be sold in local farmers markets and to local businesses. Growing Unit members will receive all the benefits of the home grower members but will also receive visits from iGrow’s horticultural team who will be available to assist them in making sure that they are getting the most out of their units.
The second area of the business sees the father and son team provide an online store for all growers needs. www.igrowstore.ie sells products specifically chosen by James and Thomas, they have spent the last year sourcing the best products to sell in the store.
James is particularly proud of the stores vegetable seed selection. “They are commercial grade seeds that have been purchased from the best commercial seed producers in the world, this means what our customers are planting in their back garden are the same quality seeds that the farmers throughout Ireland are growing in their fields.
